This course is designed to provide a comprehensive review of diabetes as a disease state. It will cover the pathophysiology of each type of diabetes, along with the signs, symptoms, and treatment options for each. This thorough overview will present the most up-to-date information and best practices to ensure effective diabetes management, care, and education
Program Objectives:
Upon completion of the program, the participant will be able to:
- Differentiate between four types of diabetes
- Discuss the principles of normal metabolism and the changes that occur with diabetes
- Define the symptoms of diabetes and identify their causes
- State how the natural history of type 1 and type 2 diabetes differ

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist
Dr. Lucille Hughes is the President of Diabetes Insights LLC. She has been a Registered Nurse for 40 years and has more than 37 years’ experience in both inpatient and outpatient diabetes care and program management. As a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, she has cared for patients across the age spectrum from pediatrics to adult patients living with diabetes. Lucille is considered an expert in the use of blood glucose monitoring technology. She is board certified in advanced diabetes management and is proud to be a fellow of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists where she has served over seven years in the following positions: Board of Director, Member’s Affiliate Liaison, Treasurer, President Elect, 2023 President, and Immediate Past President.
Lucille is passionate about sharing her knowledge with both health care professionals and people living with diabetes.
