This course is designed to provide comprehensive education on the stages of type 1 diabetes, early screening recommendations, and research opportunities for high-risk individuals. It covers the latest technologies, information, treatment options, and best practices to ensure effective diabetes management, care, and education.

- Explain screening for early-stage type 1 diabetes
- Define staging of type 1 diabetes
- Discuss monitoring in early-stage type 1 diabetes: overall, children, and adults
- Summarize the psychological support and education needed for this population
- Identify knowledge gaps and future directions

Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist
Dr. Lucille Hughes is the President of Diabetes Insights LLC. She has been a Registered Nurse for 40 years and has more than 37 years’ experience in both inpatient and outpatient diabetes care and program management. As a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, she has cared for patients across the age spectrum from pediatrics to adult patients living with diabetes. Lucille is considered an expert in the use of blood glucose monitoring technology. She is board certified in advanced diabetes management and is proud to be a fellow of the Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists where she has served over seven years in the following positions: Board of Director, Member’s Affiliate Liaison, Treasurer, President Elect, 2023 President, and Immediate Past President.
Lucille is passionate about sharing her knowledge with both health care professionals and people living with diabetes.
